Leaded Window Design, Construction, & Renovation

by Jeff Oravec

The Design Decision

The decision to use leaded glass (often referred to as stained glass) as part of your decorating scheme is an excellent choice. Stained glass has been used for decorative and structural purposes for centuries and has proven its ability to withstand the test of time, not only for its architectural uses, but perhaps more notably, its value as a true historical art form.

There are many styles of design that can be created with leadeded glass from the magnificent Prairie style windows of Frank Lloyd Wright to the whimsical organic designs of Tiffany. It is a medium that can incorporate any concept, color scheme, or artistic element you desire.

Through leaded glass, you can possess hand made art objects that are uniquely crafted and express your persona or motif to whatever extent you desire. It is an art form that is noticed and that everyone will comment on and compliment. When used as an exterior window element, it can be even be appreciated by people passing by on the street or sidewalk. The architectural use of stained glass will not only add to the beauty and curb-appeal of your home, it will also increase its market value.

CCS has been creating leaded glass panels since 1997 and prides itself on working closely with the client to ensure that everything from the design, to the color scheme, to the installation are exactly as desired and truly reflect the interests of the client.

We are one of the only leadeded glass studios that has the expertise to gild glass. Gilding is the process of adhering real 23 karat gold leaf to the glass so it becomes the beautiful golden colored mirror that is often seen in prairie style window designs in Chicago's famous Bungalos and other buildings from the early part of the last century.
